Meet the 106-Year-Old Woman from the Philippines!
Meet Indigenous Filipino Tattoo Artist Apo Whang-Od, enjoying life at age 106 and still practicing as a tattoo artist, using ancient Filipino tattooing techniques. The tattoo ink is made up of charcoal and water and then Apo Whang-Od uses a thorn from a citrus tree and attaches it to a 12-inch long bamboo stick to tap the ink deeply onto your skin.
She has been hand-tapping tattoos on skin since she was a teenager. She belongs to the “Butbut” tribe where the hand-tapping tattoo began.
Traditionally, Butbut warriors also known as the “Head Hunters” earn their tattoos after killing enemies. For Butbut women, it is considered as a sign of beauty and elegance. Butbut tribe members often live past age 100.
