Weight Loss and Health Maintenance Using App Helps Caregivers Stay Fit and Healthy

If you’ve ever said to yourself, “my diet starts tomorrow,” or signed up for a gym membership only to go sporadically, you’re not alone. Finding the time to go to the gym and stop by the store to stock up on healthy food options can be tricky, especially for a senior caregiver after a stressful day at work. However, caregivers can use the MyDietCoach app to not only track their exercise and diet, but also to set goals and follow through on weight loss and health maintenance.

When users first open the MyDietCoach app, they are presented with the option to set a goal of how much weight they would like to lose in how much time. However, what sets the MyDietCoach app apart is the ability to list why primarily you’d like to lose weight. Examples include: to look the best I can, to be more active, to reward myself with plenty of new clothes, etc.

Going along with motivations behind the goal, in the Diary portion of the app users have the ability to track both productive and counterproductive tasks they perform throughout the day. Productive options include: find a gym and sign up, healthy shopping, make time for exercise, etc. Less productive options include: workout laziness, emotional eating and food craving. Noting both the productive and counterproductive portions of each day will help caregivers note habits over time to change their behavior.

Going along with the counterproductive tasks is the Challenges area, which provides advice to users on how to change their behavior. For example, to Handle Craving Sweets, the app recommends that users, “Combine Multigrain cereals with a banana and strawberries for a tasty crunchy morning treat.”

Based on a user’s profile and weight loss goal, the app provides a recommended calorie intake for the day and users can track all the food they eat in the Diary portion of the app as well. In the reminders area of the app, users can set their phones to give them notifications throughout the day to look at a motivational photo, to cook a specific food, to drink a glass of water, etc.

Overall this app considers every part of weight loss and diet maintenance over time, including the emotional aspects and behavior motivations. Instead of focusing solely on the numbers involved such as current weight and calorie intake, it focuses on the personal motivation for your weight loss, recognizing challenges tied to motivation and daily reminders to help meet the end goal.

The MyDietCoach app is available for Apple and Android platforms.

Senior caregivers, let us know your feedback on this app and keep us posted if you discovers additional apps that assist with caregiving duties and help relieve caregiver stress. You may also refer-a-friend to a senior caregiving job and win prizes weekly and monthly on Caregiverlist.
