Florida Department of Elder Affairs 1-Hour New Hire ADRD Training

The FL Department of Elder Affairs now requires new hires to complete a 1-hour Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) training within 30 days of hire, in addition to the existing 2-hour ADRD training.

The department provides the 1-hour ADRD training video for free on their website, after the aide finishes the 1-hour training video, a certification will be provided. The 1-hour training program contains information on:

  • Understanding the basics about the most common forms of dementia
  • How to identify the signs and symptoms of dementia
  • Skills for communicating and interacting with persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related forms of dementia

Note: Only the Florida Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) can provide the 1-hour training. The rule/statute mandates that it must be offered exclusively by the DOEA.
