Summer is the perfect time to get outside, soak up the sun, and enjoy some delightful activities with your senior client. Even if they are no longer able to engage in lots of physical activities, if they are able to walk and sit, with or without assistance, you can take advantage of all the benefits of enjoying the outdoor environment.
Being in another environment, even if just observing others, if you senior client cannot actively participate, allows your mind to escape the stresses of your daily routine. So grab a hat and sunscreen, and make the most of the summer sunshine! Here’s a few ideas to make the most of the warm weather:
Bird Watching: Grab a pair of binoculars and a bird guidebook, and head to a local park or nature reserve. It’s a relaxing way to connect with nature and enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of our feathered friends.
Outdoor Theater or Music Events: Many communities offer outdoor theater productions and concerts during the summer. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a show under the sun.
Outdoor Art Fairs: Explore the creativity of local artists at an outdoor art fair. It’s a great opportunity to admire and perhaps even purchase unique pieces of art, while also enjoying the fresh air.
Fruit Picking: Visit a nearby orchard or berry farm to watch fruit picking, and if able, participate. It’s a nice way to reconnect with nature and often a quick way to grab a delicious fresh fruit pie!
Farmers’ Markets: Stroll through a local farmers’ market to find fresh fruits, vegetables, homemade goods, and more. It’s a great way to support local farmers and enjoy the vibrant, community atmosphere. If your senior client is able, take advantage of this way to interact with their local community even as an observer.
