“Caregiving Economy” Promoted at Recent Democratic National Convention
Caregivers are the Workers who Make All Other Work Possible
Caregiving organizations, working to promote better benefits for American workers were prominent at the recent Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The non-partisan organizations are working to advocate for more time off for workers to provide care for their loved ones and better benefits for paid caregivers. The entire economy benefits when caregiving has support in the workplace.
Both child care and senior care initiatives are being addressed.
Caregivers really are the workers who allow all other work to happen. Family caregivers need to have time off to provide care along with benefits that will help pay for caregiving. Paid caregivers, through both government funded Medicaid programs and private pay care or through long-term care insurance benefits, also need to receive competitive pay, benefits and support. Caregiving naturally requires long hours sometimes, and even 24-hour shifts. This means it will be necessary to support programs that will deliver more benefits to caregivers.
Learn more about the benefits these caregiving champions are promoting and how you can become involved, if interested, or share their support with others who may be in need of their services. As we are living longer and longer lives, it will be important to have enough care workers and to be able to support both family and paid caregivers.
