Adult Coloring App Provides Caregiver Stress Relief

Unleash your inner child because coloring is no longer just for the kids. Adult coloring books have taken off this year as a calming and fun way to relieve stress. Take your love of coloring one step further and use the Adult Coloring Book App to fill in different shapes on the go.

The app does not require users to create an account so they can begin coloring immediately. Once caregivers open the app, they will see the 11 different coloring books to choose from in categories ranging from Flora to Gothica. Users can scroll through the book options on the main screen, and then click on their choice to view all of the images available to color in that book. Every book offers a handful of drawings to color free of charge, but if users would like the option to color every image in the app then they can purchase access for $5.99.

Once caregivers settle on an image, they can begin coloring the image. The app simply needs users to tap the color they’d like to use and then tap the section of the painting (i.e. a flower petal) to fill. Two color palates come free with the app, called the Essential palate and the Earth palate. Access to the other palates comes at an additional cost. Other ways to customize the drawing include adjusting the texture of the drawing to watercolor, leather or canvas.

After a picture is complete, caregivers can also view an animated version of their creation which is a sped up version of every stroke they took to color it in. They can also see all in progress and completed pieces in the My Art section of the app. The Gallery area shows pieces that other users throughout the world have finished using the app to browse for inspiration.

While caregivers color in the app, a background ambience noise plays to enhance the stress relief aspect. Options for ambience include summer rain, crackling fire or babbling brook. Silence is also an option if you would prefer no noise at all. If you take public transportation home from work, using this app on the bus or train with a pair of headphones could be a nice way to unwind from a hectic day.

Caregivers can also share this app with their senior clients as a fun activity to provide some light brain exercise. Senior clients might want to share this app with their grandchildren or other family members at upcoming holiday celebrations, too. Try picking a drawing for both you and your senior client to color and see whose final piece you like better. And if your senior client would prefer a physical book, adult coloring books can be found in most major book stores.

The Adult Coloring Book app is available for Apple platforms.

Senior caregivers, let us know your feedback on this app and keep us posted if you discovers additional apps that assist with caregiving duties and help relieve caregiver stress. You may also refer-a-friend to a senior caregiving job and win prizes weekly and monthly on Caregiverlist.
