TimeTree App Allows Caregivers, Senior Clients to Easily Manage Schedules

Senior caregivers may find it difficult at times to remember everything going on with their senior clients. From doctor's appointments to family visits to coordinating work schedules, it's easy for the dates and times to blur together. Coordinating with the senior client's family also requires effective communication. The TimeTree app gives caregivers the ability to easily create and share calendars with other people.

When users first download the TimeTree app, they need to create an account by creating an initial calendar. This can be for general events or for something specific, like doctor's appointments. Caregivers also need to select a color to easily color code the events associated with that calendar.

Once they've done that, caregivers can invite others to collaborate on the calendar with them. This is ideal for those who work closely with senior clients' families to coordinate events and work schedules. Family members can also go in and keep any doctor's visits and other appointments up to date. The invite to use the calendar will be sent to them directly via email.

Once caregivers reach the home screen, they can add an event to the calendar by clicking the giant plus sign on the bottom center of the screen. Users can then fill in the requested information, including event title, date, time, notification time and more. The notification will remind caregivers of the event, and they can pick how far in advance. The default is 15 minutes, but caregivers may want to change it to an hour in advance to allow plenty of time to get where they need to be.


There are two calendar views available. Caregivers can view the entire month at a glance or pull up events in a detailed list organized from events happening soon to those happening farther out. If caregivers have multiple calendars, they can switch between them on the left panel in the app. Caregivers may find this particularly useful if they want to keep a shared calendar for their senior clients and a personal calendar for their own schedule outside of work.

Caregivers Build Tracks for Stress Relief in Meditation App

For senior caregivers, stress relief plays a large part in overall wellness. Caregiving can be a high-stress job, and caregivers might feel burnt out over time if they don't properly manage that stress. Effective methods of stress-relief include exercise, reading, taking a day off or meditation. The Meditapes app offers caregivers a tool to aid in meditation whenever they have time and wherever they are.

When caregivers first download and open the app, they must immediately decide between two soundboards. One features Keys and the other Drums. The Keys promise calming background noise, while the Drums offer deep, soft percussive sounds to help improve focus. In the paid version, caregivers can also pick between Cello and Guitar.


Once users have selected a soundboard, they can begin creating their meditative track. The app is entirely interactive. Caregivers are presented with a screen displaying gradient colors, and they can build their own track by tapping anywhere on it. With each tap, the app places a different tone and type of sound in place for a beat. It will play it repeatedly, and then caregivers can hit other places on the screen to add to the existing repeating track. A narrow circle is also created on the screen when you tap, and as the note plays out and gets softer, the circle expands. It adds a nice visual to the meditative experience. 

Users can also change the type of drum being used on the track. The options include Cali Coast, Carribean Coast, Catskills, Great Lakes and more. Each one changes the overall tone of the track, and it offers a way to change up the tracks use by use. 

Caregivers can listen to their audio creation on a loop for as long as they'd like. So they can create a track, and then sit or lay down with their eyes closed for a few minutes and listen to the track to destress at the end of a long day. When users close out of the track they're listening to, a screen pops up with a slider asking the user to rate their mood. The scale uses a simple smiling or frowning face to represent the mood options. 

If caregivers create a track that they like a lot, they also have the option to save it for future listening or to share it with a friend. The Share option pre-populates an e-mail that caregivers can easily send to others to download the app.

Caregivers Keep Up With News, Entertainment Using Podcast App

Senior caregivers often have busy schedules, so it may be difficult to find time to decompress and watch something funny or catch up on the latest news. For those caregivers, podcasts offer a way to listen to the latest while driving, cooking dinner or getting ready for bed. The Breaker app provides podcast recommendations and subscription management for caregivers.

When users first download the app, they need to create an account. Caregivers can choose to attach it to their Facebook or Twitter profile, or use their email address to do so. Then, the app will take them through set-up, which includes following any existing users who users might already know. 

Then the app brings users to the subscription section where they can search and subscribe to their favorite podcasts. When users subscribe to a podcast, then they will receive updates every time a new episode is released.

For caregivers who may not have listened to podcasts before downloading the app, the Discover section will come in handy. This displays some of the more popular podcasts and brief descriptions of them. If caregivers see a podcast they'd like to learn more about on the list, then they can click on the name to read the full description and see the available episode titles. 

Podcasts topics range from in-depth journalism to fiction series to everyday people discussing their passions. Unfortunately, the Breaker app doesn't have an option within the Discover section to sort or browse by topic, or to search by keyword for a topic. However, if caregivers would like to listen to a show on a particular topic, they could search the iTunes Store and then subscribe to it in the app once they've selected a show. 

Caregivers can see all of the shows they've subscribed to on the Subscriptions tab in the app. Here they can see all of the episodes and download them directly in the app if they're connected to wifi.


Caregivers might enjoy selecting a program to listen to with their senior clients, or they might enjoy listening to something funny at the end of a long day for some stress relief.

App Allows Caregivers to Track Calories By Taking Pictures of Food

When it comes to tracking calories and watching what you eat, it seems fairly reasonable when you're eating products with a nutrition label. But what about when you go out to dinner, or over to a friend's house and you eat something that they cooked? It can be tricky to know how many calories are really in your lunch. Luckily, the Calorie Mama AI app makes tracking estimated calories as easy as snapping a photo on your phone and letting the app analyze it. 

When caregivers first download the app, they need to create a profile using either their Facebook profile or their e-mail address. Then, caregivers need to enter their weight information and indicate if they have a weight loss goal. The app seems like it would be useful for those not looking to lose weight, but simply seeking to better understand the caloric makeup of their meals, too. The app provides a recommended calorie intake based on the information provided and then takes caregivers to the home screen to start entering foods. 

For caregivers to enter foods, they can take a photo of an item or they can scan a barcode of a packaged product. For example, if you're out to dinner at a restaurant, you can take a picture of your plate and the app will use its Artifical Intelligence to recognize that you're eating a burger and french fries and log generic nutrition information for such an item accordingly. For a packaged item, the app can analyze the front of the package and figure out what it is, or it can scan the barcode on the item for accurate information. Upon testing the app by taking a photo of the front of an energy bar, it correctly identified on the first try. 

Once a food item has been logged, the app adds it to the user's nutrition log for the day. It provides a recommended intake of calories for each meal, and upon logging foods, it shows you whether you're above or below your calories for that meal. An overall ticker at the top of the page shows how many calories you have remaining for the whole day. 

Caregivers can also log any exercise they do in a day to earn additional calories, and they can record how many glasses of water they drink. As time goes by, caregivers also can log their body weight to track weight loss, if that's one of their goals in using the app. One of the icons at the bottom even brings up a page showing a graph to track body weight over time.

GrandPad App Allows Senior Clients To Stay Connected To Loved Ones Digitally

For senior clients as they age, particularly for those who live a fair distance from their family, staying involved in one another's daily lives can be challenging. While the younger generations are plugged into technology, social media could seem overwhelming for a senior client with posts to sort through from so many different sources. The GrandPad app offers a way for families to send pictures and updates to their senior loved ones in a private program.

To use the GrandPad app, the senior client needs to purchase a plan with the site. The options include a monthly or annually billed plan for the tablet itself, connectivity, and insurance in case of damage or theft. Once a senior client is set up with their GrandPad, then their loved ones can download the GrandPad app to begin sharing photos and videos with them. 

When users first download the app, they need to send e-mail invites to all of the people who they'd like to contribute to the Family Feed. From there, the new users can download the app too and sign into their private feed. From there, users can post pictures and comment on other people's posts, just like on other social networks such as Instagram or Facebook. Loved ones can also decide to hook up their Instagram feed to the app so that pictures are sent automatically to the Family Feed automatically. 

To make it as easy as possible for senior clients to interact with the content, voice memos can be left instead of typed comments. Users also have the option of conducting voice or video calls directly on the tablet or in the app. The voice memos can also be sent as e-mails, so seniors have many options to communicate with their families stress-free. The GrandPad also features games and music for seniors to interact with as they'd like. 

Caregivers can support their senior clients in using the GrandPad to communicate with their families. They can take photos of them doing activities around the house, such as cooking dinner, or help them record voice memos to share with their loved ones. They can also monitor the family feed for them and make sure they don't miss any updates from their family.

Health App Tracks Activity for Caregiver Stress Relief

The job of a caregiver can be unpredictable and stressful. One of the most important considerations for maintaining a healthy lifestyle comes with managing that stress. Caregivers have several options when it comes to stress relief: meditation, exercise and sleep all contribute to wellness. For caregivers with Apple phones, the built-in Health app automatically tracks steps so caregivers can gauge their daily activity. 

You probably don't realize the number of steps that you take each day. For caregivers especially, who might be crossing a room several times a day to get things for their senior clients, 15 steps here and 20 steps there add up fairly quickly. The Health app uses GPS data to track how far your phone moves, and with it, how many steps and miles you walk in a day. Caregivers with Apple phones don't even need to download anything to use this function; it comes pre-installed on the phone and tracks movement automatically. 

When caregivers open the app, they are greeted with a dashboard that shows the number of flights of stairs climbed, number of steps and walking + running distance average for the week. If caregivers also have a device such as a Fitbit that tracks calories and other fitness data, they can connect that with the Health app to produce more data, such as exercise minutes or workouts. 

For each category presented, caregivers can click to see more historical data and compare charts over time. For example, clicking on walking + running distance will show all of the daily data for the week, month or year and display bar graphs across the top to illustrate the data. It will also show your average distance overall. The comparison charts help caregivers realize when they might have a week or month that's particularly low so that they can adjust their routine to add in more exercise.


Consider setting a daily step or distance goal for yourself, or maybe even for you and your senior client if they feel like going for a walk. For senior clients, regular movement helps keep their joints active, even if it's just a leisurely stroll around the block. For senior caregivers, walking or running even an extra mile every day can help relieve stress.

Fun Brain Game App Helps Prevent Onset of Dementia in Senior Clients

The task of keeping a senior's brain active to prevent the onset of dementia may seem daunting, but it breaks down to finding small tasks they can do on a regular basis. Many activities will do the trick, such as crossword puzzles, yoga, or reading a book, one option is to pick a brain game. The Six app offers a simple but fun game to activate senior clients' brains and prevent dementia. 

The concept behind Six will be easy for a senior client to pick up in its simplicity. There is a hexagon on top of a tower of blocks of different shapes and sizes. The goal of the game is to eliminate the blocks one at a time from underneath the hexagon without letting it roll off the side of the tower. It sounds easy, but as the blocks fall the hexagon shifts on its five sides.


The challenge lies in determining which blocks will throw off the balance of the whole tower and send the hexagon teetering off the edge. Senior clients will need to examine the way the different shapes underneath the hexagon fit together, and how the weight will shift as they choose which block to eliminate next. For example, in the above scenario, senior clients would need to decide whether or not getting rid of the block on the far right would cause the hexagon to shift and come falling off the right side of the tower. 

As caregivers and their senior clients continue playing the game, they rack up more and more points for eliminating blocks while keeping the hexagon balanced. Once a certain score is reached, the app unlocks the next level for play. Caregivers could easily create a little tournament between themselves and their senior clients to see who can get the high score on the game, or instead play together and strategize about which blocks to get rid of next. 

Another version of the game available is based entirely on speed, and how quickly players can get rid of blocks while keeping the hexagon balanced. Senior clients can give this a try, but many may prefer to take their time on the classic version of the game. Both offer ample opportunity for brain exercise, so whichever they prefer is fine.

Yoga for Beginners App Offers Caregivers, Clients Easy Way to Exercise

Relieving stress and staying active play a big part in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but most of the time that seems easier said than done. For senior caregivers whose work is particularly demanding, setting aside time a couple of times a week to exercise and de-stress can make a big difference in mental and physical health. The Yoga For Beginners app offers a way for caregivers and their senior clients to stretch and exercise wherever is most convenient for them. 

The home screen of the app is divided into four different sections: Yoga Plans, Yoga Poses, Health Tips and Instruction. Under Yoga Plans, caregivers will find the different options for yoga programs that they can complete through the guided instructions in the app. The Yoga for Beginners plan is free, while the others such as Yoga to Relieve Stress or Yoga for Better Sleep must be paid for. Starting with Yoga for Beginners will give you and your senior clients a feel for the basic poses and will help with the aforementioned issues. Simply doing any yoga helps bring calm to the mind and stretch the body. 

Once users select a program, they can click start to begin the countdown and launch into their exercise routine. The screen shows the specific pose that caregivers should use, and if a demonstration is needed then caregivers can click on the play button in the upper right-hand corner. This will pull up a video explaining and demonstrating the pose for someone who has never done it before. The videos are embedded directly into the app from YouTube, so they aren't all the same style or instructor. But given the free nature of the app, they do a sufficient job of educating the viewer on how to complete the exercise. 


Under the Yoga Poses area of the app, caregivers will find a list of poses that serve different purposes and instructions on how to complete them. The categories include Yoga Poses, Abs Exercises, Stretch Exercises, etc. Every category includes some free poses and some locked for a paid subscription. These all include a written description of the activity and what it helps with, and then a YouTube video showing the exercise. These YouTube videos appear to be specifically put together for the app, as opposed to the videos in the other portion that differ in instructor and style video-to-video. 

Under Health Tips, caregivers will find several categories sharing tips on everything from Women's Health and Weight Loss Tips to Healthy Eating and Aging & Health. When users read these tips, even in the prose they are reminded to consult with their doctors for expert opinions before changing their habits drastically. Especially when it comes to senior clients, medical professionals will offer a more sound opinion than general tips in an app. However, this section can offer some food for thought, and options to discuss at future doctor's appointments.

Caregivers Clean Up Inbox Using Email Organizing App

Over time it's easy to become sick of the barrage of emails cluttering up your inbox, and needing to unsubscribe from a new list every time you buy something off the internet. Sometimes, you might be on the mailing list for companies like Caregiverlist whose e-mails you care about, but don't want to read individually. The Unroll.me app takes the work out of checking emails by allowing caregivers to unsubscribe from unwanted lists and organize their inboxes to get pertinent information in one daily digest. 

When users first open the app, it asks them to log in using their e-mail provider for the account they'd like to manage. Once the app has access to your account, it shows a small tutorial for how to categorize e-mails. Swiping left will unsubscribe you from that particular list, swiping up puts that e-mail into your Daily Digest, and swiping right keeps your subscription as-is. 

Then the app pops up with a notification letting caregivers know how many lists they're subscribed to. The number may surprise you, as it could easily be over 100 subscriptions. Then the app proceeds to pull up individual previews of each unread email in your inbox. This gives caregivers the ability to categorize each one as they go through. 


Caregivers may want to keep any e-mail subscriptions from the industry and roll them up into their daily digest, but unsubscribe from the mailing list of online retailers who they only made a one-time purchase from. However, for personal email addresses or those of your employer, family of senior clients, etc., you may want to maintain individual communication so you never miss an important message. If you roll these into your daily digest, it could mean you won't see a request immediately. 

Once caregivers finish sorting through all of their emails, they can go to the upper right corner and click on the newsletter icon to be taken to their daily digest. The digest won't appear on the first day after users initially sort their emails, but moving forward users can see the daily digest here. Also, users have the option as time passes to go back and look at their daily digests from previous days.

Reading App Helps Caregivers Form New Habits in the New Year

In this digital age, with the internet and endless numbers of shows to watch on TV, sitting down and reading a book may seem like an old-fashioned hobby. But reading provides a way for caregivers to relieve stress, and a way for senior clients to keep their minds active to prevent the onset of dementia. Using the Bookout app, caregivers can set goals for how often they'd like to read, track actual minutes spent reading and unlock various achievements. 

To get started with the app, caregivers first should pick a book they're currently reading or are ready to begin reading. For those with digital readers, many libraries offer free access to e-books the same way you can check out a physical book. Users can then search for the specific title of the book they select within the app and it's added to their library with the number of pages. As users read the book, they can log the number of pages read, length of time reading and date. 


These minutes can be logged towards specific monthly goals set within the Goals section of the app. Caregivers can pick either a monthly or a yearly goal for number of hours read. The goals section of the app also offers an alarm setting to remind caregivers to read every day. This feature could be particularly useful for senior clients, who might want to read daily for an hour or two each day to keep their minds active. 

The Stats section of the app provides a look at pages read and time spent reading over time with a line chart. It also shows the number of consecutive days users have logged time reading. Caregivers can easily see their own progress on this tab, with more statistics available if they'd like to upgrade to the paid version of the app. 

The Achievements area of the app offers some fun "badges" associated with reading different categories of books or for different lengths of time. For example, the Fledging badge is earned after completing your first book. Others require more in-depth accomplishments, such as the Worshiper app with requires users to add five quotes they enjoyed from a book to the notes on that book's page.
