Resume Builder Pieces Together Caregiver Resumes: Caregiverlist Senior Care App Review

One of the crucial aspects of searching for a job in any field is polishing your resume to highlight your skills and past experience in your field. For senior caregivers, creating a resume helps show potential employers or seniors and their families who you might be working for specifically what your work history is and why you would be a good fit for their open position. The Pocket Mobile Resume app allows you to build your resume one section at a time on your smartphone.

To create a new resume, the app provides categories to choose from including Personal info, Education, Experience, References, Skills and Other info. For caregivers, Experience and References should be included on a resume to show experience in the field and provide information for previous employers who can give you a good referral. Additionally, under personal information be sure to include your phone number and/or professional e-mail address so that you're easy to reach for an interview.

The app itself provides specific fields to auto format each section, which limits the formatting options to a few in the but but is a lot easier than trying to format it yourself in a word processor. The app also doesn't require an answer for every field, so it's entirely customizable for what information you want to display. It allows you to edit and work on each section individually and add them to an existing resume, so you can work on it when you have a few minutes here and there as opposed to needing to block off a large chunk of time to write the whole thing at once. Users can also preview their resume and its formatting on a separate tab.

The only downsides to this app is that the free version doesn't allow the user to export a resume off of their phone. For a one time $0.99 charge for the upgraded version of the app, users have options to export an unlimited number of resumes from the app into a PDF or HTML format.

The basic version of the app is available for free for iPhone.

C.N.A. Test Prep App Provides Practice Questions: Caregiverlist Senior Care App Review

Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A) increases the number of job opportunities available to a senior caregiver. Certified Nursing Assistants help take care of bedridden patients, assist with dressing, bathing and feeding and take vital signs among other personal and nursing duties. Senior caregivers who wish to pursue becoming a C.N.A. can look into schools in their state that offer training programs. Before receiving certification, caregivers must past a C.N.A. qualifying exam. Caregiverlist offers a sample test to give caregivers an idea of what to expect on the exam.

To review questions and study for the exam on the go, the MedPreps CNA Test Prep app offers free practice C.N.A. test questions for senior caregivers. The app features approximately 1,000 questions covering topics that could appear on the test, from client rights to activities of daily living to communication issues. Users are presented with a question with four multiple choice answers at the bottom. The app indicates an incorrect answer by lighting up red and a correct answer by highlighting the choice in green. No matter which answer is chosen, a box in the right corner labeled "Explain," brings up a screen that explains the correct answer in detail.

The app enables caregivers to study for the test at any opportunity where they might have ten spare minutes. Try answering just five questions each day while enrolled in C.N.A. school while riding public transit or before bed. Look at which questions you originally missed as the test approaches and see if you can answer them correctly now.

App Name: CNA Test Prep

Available for free for Apple and Android platforms. Limited questions are available in the free edition, unlock all questions in the paid version of the app.

National Nursing Assistant Week in its 36th Year

I’m not sure where my family would be without the help of our Certified Nursing Aide. The CNA provided by our Home Care Agency comes in twice a week to help care for my aging mother. She allows me to continue working outside the home and provides respite for the other family caregivers. She is a wonderful companion, making mom’s day brighter with her gentleness and humor. It gives me great peace of mind knowing that while I’m away, my mother is in the hands of a professional caregiver.

June 13 - 20 is National Nursing Assistants Week and a great opportunity to show your admiration, respect and appreciation for direct care worker in your life. Sponsored by the National Network of Career Nursing Assistants,  this week "provides a timely opportunity to foster and showcase the wonderful things that can happen for residents and workers when we join together."

Because of the aging of our population, qualified nursing assistants are in high demand. In 2010, there were more than 1.5 million people working as Certified Nursing Assistants nationwide. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of nursing aides, orderlies, and attendants is expected to grow by 20 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations.

In honor of my mother’s CNA, I’m going to do a little more than just give her a Starbuck’s gift card (although I’ll do that as well.) I’m going to try to affect some real change by advocating for in-home care on a legislative level. Today, I’m signing the petition on Change.org , and entreat President Obama to finish what he started on December 15, 2011 — to extend federal minimum wage and overtime protections to home care workers.

At Caregiverlist, we applaud those who give so tirelessly of themselves by caring for some of the most vulnerable of our society. CNAs are the backbone of the senior caregiving community.

If you are now or are considering becoming a CNA, visit our Caregiving Career Center to build a resume, apply for a job or get the training you need to start you on a career path that really makes a difference in peoples’ lives.
